Before my hands fall off from typing so much today, I thought I would share some interesting news with you about pulmonary rehabilitation programs.

While pulmonary rehab programs can improve your quality of life by decreasing dyspnea and improving exercise tolerance, only a small percentage of patients get the opportunity to participate in them. Why? Because many hospitals simply don't have the means to offer these types of programs in-house. With this in mind, pulmonary rehab is coming home for the holidays and may soon be offered as a home-based program in some parts of Canada.

The home-based program was designed by Canadian researchers, is based on aerobic exercises and can easily be performed in the privacy of your own home. This not only helps to decrease the financial burden that COPD places on hospitals, but helps them to continue to provide optimum care for their patients. The major study involved more than 250 patients in 10 Canadian centres and hopes to have a positive impact on both patients and the Canadian healthcare system.

Would you participate in a home-based pulmonary rehab program? Be sure to take the poll and leave a comment.
