Gail
- I smoked 3 packs a day for years, even smoked in the shower. My feet never touched the floor until I had a cigarette in my mouth, even if I was just going to the bathroom in the middle of the night. What worked for me, and it was the first time I ever decided to quit was the "patch". I did not avoid friends who smoked and continued to go places where I had smoked. The patch truely worked! I've been smoke free for about 17 or 18 years now. I wish I had the money I wasted on those cigarettes for the roughly 30 years I did smoke, but I'll never waste another dime on them.

Quitting
- My mother smoked with oxygen hooked to her nose..... couldn't give em up. She left this world in 2005. Her heart couldn't continue and "emphysema" got her. I've ruined my lungs smoking. I stopped in 1997. My doctor said "Mr. Branch if you don't quit it will get worse. If you do quit, it will probally never get any better. I guess I can't understand people smoking after the fact. Life is short enough without this. If you really want to quit, you will. Its all a state of mind.

A Support Group
- I tried everything from the nicotine patch to Chantix, but the thing that helped me most was joining a local quit smoking support group.

Chantix, of Course
- Chantix worked really well for me. No real side effects and it helped me finally quit after trying many times before.
