What I Did:

I went on the Internet and applied for SSDI and I was turned down. I didn't have enough work credits. So then, all I could do was get SSI & Medicaid. I also got food stamps. And that is enough to pay my portion of my bills and to get to see my doctor and get medication. I also have enough food to live a life.

How I Did It:

I went to my doctor's for few months. I told him I couldn't work any more -- he agreed I was disabled. He sent in my medical file and they approved me. I filled out all the paper work, met up with all my appointments, went to the social security office and talked to them. I showed them proof of identification.

Lessons Learned

What I learned was to get SSDI you have to have enough work credits, be very sick and make sure your doctor is behind you. Take your medications. Quit smoking. Be positive and do all you can to learn about COPD.

Thanks so much for your input David. It is invaluable.
