Occupational Exposure and COPD

I get several emails a year from people who have been diagnosed with COPD and are surprised because they've never smoked. Most of you who have it know that, while smoking remains the primary cause of COPD, never-smokers are also at risk if they've been chronically exposed to other types of airway irritants, like noxious chemicals in the workplace. In fact, studies have shown that about 15% of all COPD cases are due to occupational exposure.
