Eating Soy Decreases Risk and Symptoms of COPD
Led by Curtin Professor Andy Lee, the research found that those who ate more than 75 grams of soy on a daily basis received the greatest health benefits. Studies such as these demonstrate that diet can lead to the advent of new methods of prevention which may ultimately reduce health care costs.
Previous research suggests that flavonoids from soy products may have an anti-inflammatory effect within the lungs. The study concluded that further research is needed to understand this relationship.
Soy products that were examined in the study included tofu, natto, bean sprouts and soy milk.

I have been diagnosed with copd for about three years now. My worst times are in the winter. If taking the soy products helped reduce the symptoms, I would take them. Is this the case with people already dealing with copd?
Thanks
Hi
The study suggests that soy decreases shortness of breath associated with COPD and improves lung function, as well as reduces the risk of developing the disease if you don’t already have it. But, it was also emphasized that smokers would continue to be at greater risk, even if they added soy to their diets.
It would be interesting to know how they measured the improvement of lung function? Was it through spiromery? This was not clear in what I have read. The study group consisted of 300 people.
If I find out anything more, I will elaborate. Thanks for the comment.
